The Prayer Flag Project
Please join me the morning of Saturday June 25th for The Prayer Flag Project. If the weather is nice, maybe you can take the workshop with you outdoors.
Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength, and wisdom. The Tibetans believe the prayers and mantras inscribed in the flag will be blown by the wind to spread the good will and compassion into all pervading space.
The Prayer Flag Project is a space dedicated to creating your own prayer flag as a source of solace, hope, solidarity, strength, and transformation in these challenging times. The theme of your prayer flag can be universal or personal. For example, you can make prayer flags for Mother Earth, for Ukraine, for survivors and victims of gun violence, for the reproductive rights of women and girls. Or you can make prayer flags for your loved ones and communities to set personal intentions, honor those who have passed away, heal relationships, or uplift others.
You can hang your finished prayer flags outdoors on a tree or fence or in your homes as offerings. You use them in protests or in social media posts. There are so many options and it's a really flexible form.
The price of this workshop is an optional donation of $25 to Everytown for Gun Safety or an organization of your choice.
When you register, I will send you a list of suggested materials you can gather to prepare for our work together. When we meet, you'll have time to reflect and plan out what shape and style your first prayer flag will take and to who or what you would like to dedicate it.
You'll have time to begin working on your prayer flag and an additional seven days to complete it. I plan to host another optional zoom meeting the following weekend to share our work. I will create a digital gallery to showcase our work for those who would like to share on a broader scale.
No sewing experience is necessary. It would be wonderful if you joined!
